Is it ‘hotter’n a blister bug in a pepper patch!’ Could you ‘fry an egg on the sidewalk!’ Are you just tired of 98 degree days?  Well, here are some creative ways to beat the heat in Washington!

Being on the Pamlico River, Washington is the perfect place to rent a kayak or stand up paddle board. Hit up Inner Banks Outfitters, Pamlico Boat rentals at Moss Landing, or River Vibes and cool off in the water. Nothing says summer like a little paddling and a lot of splashing.

If a more easygoing way of cooling off is your thing, relax in one of the porch swings on Stewart Parkway or have a seat under the gazebo on the people’s pier. That fresh river breeze and view of the charming waterfront will have you feeling revitalized in no time!

On particularly humid days, you should do outside activities either early or late in the day. Health professionals also suggest wearing light clothing and a hat while out in the heat. Taking a cool shower can help during the dog days of summer as well.
Speaking of dogs, finding shade is important and can be found at many locations in Washington, including Havens Gardens and the off leash dog park.

There’s always shopping inside in Washington!    Browse the eclectic selection of items at the Little Shoppes or find that ‘must have’ piece from The Southern Nest Antiques while staying cool in the air conditioning (while wearing a mask and social distancing, of course!)

It is very important to stay hydrated in the summer heat as well. Stop in at PureVida Nutrition or Giddyup Coffeehouse for a fruit smoothie that will cool you off and make you feel delightfully healthy from first sip to last. On the go this summer?  Drive through Perfect Perks for a smoothie while staying in the comfort of your own car!

PuraVida Nutrition serves up delicious
smoothies & treats!

Looking to chill with something more decadent?  How about an old fashioned milkshake from Cups & Cones?  Or a scrumptious sundae from Scoops on Main?  Pelican’s Snoballs will please you with their many flavors of treats. If you just want to enjoy in your car, walk up to Dairy Palace for a chocolate dipped cone. (Have some green in your wallet-Dairy Palace is cash only.)

No matter how you decide to ‘chillax’ this summer, you’re sure to feel refreshed, revived, and renewed while beating the heat in Washington!
